Just exactly what is ChassisCoat Black? It appears to be very similar to regular POR-15 Black Rust Preventive Paint. Both products are similar to each other because they are both polymeric isocyanates, or moisture-cured urethanes to use a broad term loosely, but the similarity ends there because the base resins used are entirely different. ChassisCoat Black is a semi-gloss black topcoat, not a bare metal primer. It sticks well to bare metal and offers some rust protection, but nothing like regular POR-15 on bare metal. It's a rust-preventive topcoat, and that's the way it must be used. Whenever the situation call for a rock-hard, non-porous coating over existing paint or over POR-15, ChassisCoat Black is the answer.
How well does ChassisCoat Black work when applied over regular POR-15 Rust Preventive Paint?
A combined coating of POR-15 and ChassisCoat Black makes the toughest, most permanent rust-preventive finish ever developed It will out perform any other coating and keep the underlying metal free from rust and corrosion permanently in any and all whether conditions.
Will ChassisCoat Black be available in other colors?
Yes. It is available in a high gloss black (BlackCote) and in White (WhiteCote).
Will ChassisCoat Black fade like POR-15 Rust Preventive Paint?
No. It is not sensitive to UV sunlight. It will maintain its semi-gloss black appearance.
Does ChassisCoat Black have some imperfections in it like regular POR-15?
Yes, it has. Because it's a moisture-cured product, it must be blended and canned quickly to avoid overexposure to the atmosphere. Prolonged milling and emulsifying to achieve perfection is just not possible in a single-component product. However, straining will help to eliminate these imperfections.
